Why professional packing is worth paying for
The insurance is the real reason. Across the removals industry, goods-in-transit cover applies to items packed by the removal company. Boxes you pack yourself are generally excluded or covered only for external damage to the carton — so if a self-packed box of glassware arrives broken, that's usually on you. Have us pack it and your belongings are covered for the move. If nothing else on this page persuades you, that should.
Speed. Two trained packers will clear a three-bedroom house in a day. The same house takes most people three or four evenings plus a weekend, done tired, after work, around children.
It's the packing that determines whether things break, not the driving. A properly packed box has no voids, no weight above the strength of the carton, plates on their edges rather than stacked flat, and nothing rattling. Most damage in transit traces back to how the box was filled.

How much does packing cost?
A full packing service typically adds £300–£600 to a house move, depending on volume and how much is fragile. A part pack or fragile-only pack costs proportionally less — for many people the kitchen alone is the sensible spend.
What affects the figure:
- Volume — number of rooms, and how full the cupboards are
- Proportion of fragile items — a house with a china collection takes longer than a house of flat-pack and clothes
- Loft, garage, shed and garden — frequently forgotten at estimate stage
- Unpacking — quoted separately
- Materials — included in a full or part pack, charged separately if you're packing yourself
